auto-ethnography is a method leveraging the personal stories, memories, and experiences of the researcher to map, disseminate, and understand broader cultural phenomena.

i am interested in auto-ethnography as a feminist practice – one that decolonizes the lens of historically white cannons of image-making (photography, video, and archiving). Auto-ethnography as a process of reclamation thus centers the voices of groups studied or those (in)vuluntarily participating.

My work engages this practice through the exploration of historical public archives. With collage as a method, I map my individual, multi-hyphenate experience as a mixed-race queer femme, creating a body of visual poetics that situate my experience in forever evolving life of black american culture.

I hope my work can serve as one small example of what life is like.

TLDR: This page features an ongoing series of work that explores auto-ethnography as a method in my practice. One that helps me understand my experiences in the broader context of queer, black american contemporary life.)
